Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice is a famous book by the author named Jane Austen. Pride and Prejudice is a classic book that many people love… that includes me. Pride and Prejudice is a book about four girls. The girls are named Jane Bennet, Elizabeth (or Lizzie) Bennet, Kitty Bennet and Lydia Bennet. The book is from Lizzie’s point-of-view.

The book begins with a new person in town. The person is named Charles Bingley. Bingley moves into a manor in the town. The four Bennet’s see Bingley as a prospect for marriage. The Bennet sisters see another person who is a catch, too. The other person is friends with Bingley. His name is Fitzwilliam Darcy. Darcy makes a bad impression on Lizzie and the girls’s mother. However, the girls still view Darcy as a well-off man who would be a catch.

The book is a romance between Lizzie and Darcy. It is also about the social dance that goes on between men and women. Lizzie has a lot of pride even though she comes from a poor family. She has prejudice against Darcy because Darcy is rich. Darcy has a lot of pride because of his rich place in British society. He has prejudice against the Bennet’s because they aren’t as well-off as him.

Pride and Prejudice is a great classic book. It is about a dance that has gone on since the beginning of time… the dance that naturally happens between men and women when they come-of-age.

I think you should pick up Pride and Prejudice if you want to read a classic book that is a challenge to read.

Little Women

What’s not to love about the book, Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott? There’s romance, there’s drama and there’s stories about the daily struggles of life throughout the book. So, let’s start at the beginning.

Little Women is about four sisters. The four sisters are named Meg March, Jo March, Amy March and Beth March. Meg March is the sensible and the kind oldest sister. Jo March is the spirited writer. Amy March is the young and the frivolous sister. Beth March is the soft-hearted youngest sister. These four women live and work in the town of Concord, Massachusetts. The four girls face the difficulties of the Civil War in that time. The four sisters must struggle to live with little income because their father is off fighting in the war.

The heart of the book is the love shared between the four sisters. The sisters love, share and learn from one another. They overcome trials and obstacles by supporting each other.

Another important part of the book is the romance between Jo March, Amy March and Theodore Laurence. Laurie (which is the nickname for Theodore Laurence) is in love with the strong and the smart Jo March. However, Jo rejects Laurie’s proposal. Amy, who always loved Laurie, is the woman who wins Laurie in the end.

There are some wonderful things about Little Women. The book is filled with romance, laughter and life lessons. I suggest that you pick up the book and give it a try.
